You may apply even if you have left Iceland for more than 90 days during each 12-month period if it was:

one year or less in total during the qualifying period

2 years in total due to temporary employment or circumstances beyond your control (e.g. illness of you or close relative)

3 years in total for studying

if it was because your spouse/custodian parent (Icelandic citizen) works abroad representing Iceland or works for an international organization that Iceland is a member of
Please note that you still need to have stayed in Iceland for 7 years or the required period. The time abroad does not count toward the required time.
