Comments on Bills of Law

The Icelandic Human Rights Center comments on bills of law presented at the Parliament (Althing), with the aim of ensuring that Icelandic law is in accordance with Iceland’s international human rights obligations. In the year 2007 the Center commented on, inter alia, a bill proposing amendments to the Act on Icelandic citizenship No. 100/1952, a parliamentary resolution on the ratification of the Council of Europe Convention on Action against Trafficking in Human Beings and a bill on the Icelandic Peace Corp.

In 2008 the Center commented on, inter alia, a bill on the equal status and rights of women and men, a bill on restraining orders, a bill proposing amendments to the Act on Foreigners No. 96/2002 and a parliamentary resolution on the condemnation of human rights violations and the encouragement of the US government to close Guantanamo Bay.
